Being Safe and Responsible

Responsible Care® is the Chemical Industry’s program that enables worldwide chemical companies to achieve high standards of performance and generate great value for their businesses.

The program pertains to some of these key areas of safety:

Is your Flare Stack Compliant?

The US EPA is targeting improvement of Flare Operation Practices. This includes better control and monitoring of supplemental gas, steam and air for better combustion efficiency, less emissions and reduced operating costs.

For more information read the EPA Article

So what can be done to assure compliance with these requirements? Effectively monitor and control the supplemental gas of the flare.

An Upgrade Path

A customer of ours who manufacturers and supplies pressure sensitive film and adhesive products worldwide, had one of our legacy products installed over a decade ago to monitor the % LFL of the solvent levels in the heating process atmosphere. The system had been working great but due to its age, the necessary spare parts were becoming harder to come by, which lead to longer lead times & higher costs. Since this LFL system was critical to their success they decided to pursue an upgrade path.

Safety Matters: Best In Class

The CalorVal Solution

One of our customers that manufactures solvents, polymers and intermediary chemicals, was looking to meet specific requirements set by the state for flare stack operation. The area of concern was measuring BTUs. The solution was a reliable & proven analyzer.

Are you Monitoring your Industrial Facility Correctly?

Industrial manufacturing facilities use a variety of hazardous gases and solvents in their production processes. Whenever these substances are transported, processed or stored, the potential risks are high for hazardous conditions. These substances must be continuously monitored to protect personnel and facilities from accidental releases or leakage.

Burner Efficiency

One of our customers designs & manufactures burners for residential, commercial and industrial applications. They came across an issue meeting the standards of the BTS-2000, a standard that specifies the methods & procedures for determining the performance and efficiency of burners for use in commercial boilers with inputs greater than 300MBh.

Does this sound familiar? Take a look at what they did to solve this problem, pass all the necessary tests, and continue to be productive.

Response Time

Hemingway once wrote that a man goes broke “slowly, then all at once.” There may be months of lead-up to an accident. Maybe there’s a weakness baked in right from the start that only crops up after years of operation or an unusual cascade of errors. Maybe there is some seemingly insignificant change whose dangerous consequences were never considered when the design was made so long ago.

CIC Becomes FTA Member

Control Instruments Corporation has become a member of the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA). The primary goal of the FTA and its Foundation is to provide a platform for flexographers to network, learn and exchange ideas – all in the name of advancing the art and science of the flexographic print process. Together we look forward to helping provide a wealth of products, services and shared cutting-edge knowledge to the flexo industry.
